With a so privileged cost Ubatuba couldn’t not offer an abundant variety of tropical specialties to its visitors.

“Caiçara” is a term that is used to define the inhabitants of the coastal paolista region with its rustic culture of beach and fishing. Local specialties have as base ingredients that come both from the sea (very fresh fish and seafood) and from the land, that offers delights such as banana, palmar (palm heart), squash, manioc (a root delicious!), Coconut and peppers.

Formerly the breakfast of Caiçara consisted of very simple elements such as fish, banana and manioc, which were the only food that the fishermen had available since, in that era, in this region,  neither milk nor grain had arrived in this region .

Over time, the local culinary variety has increased and now dishes like fish with farofa (manioc flour) topped with bananas, fish cooked in coconut milk and served in a banana tree leaf, shrimp, fried calamari, pira (fish sauce with flour), accompanied by rice, are the specialties that you can taste in the various restaurants of the town.

In this menu you can not for sure miss the tropical fruit. To accompany the food samplings to tease during the sunset or to sweeten the nightlife in Ubatuba, the traditional caipirinha, made with lemon, sugar and cachaça, and collecting always a big hit among tourists and Brazilians, is perfect. There  are also those who prefer to opt for innovative flavours such as caipirinha caju (tropical fruit) with a file (like orange) and gengibre (root widely used in oriental cooking), pineapple with mint, passion fruit (tropical fruit) with mint … etc.

Desserts like passion fruit mousse, coconut manjar (similar to a coconut pannacotta) goiabada (jam goiaba) with cream cheese and papaya, are exotic deliciousness that can seduce most of the visitors.
Every year at Ubatuba a food festival is held in the city, and during this festival meetings, courses and tastings (offering a plentiful amount of food to the participants), are promoted.

In addition to the local food, Ubatuba also offers restaurants characterized by an international cuisine, ranging from pizza, grill house, creperie, to those premises with more sophisticated and refined menu.
